Hi guys,

I want to chat with you about two pretty popular buzzwords you may have heard of lately; micro weddings and elopements! You’ve probably  heard these buzzwords, especially if you are planning a wedding during COVID-19. Many couples are opting for these less traditional wedding options and for good reason! Some states have laws about how many people can be gathered, some couples don’t want to push back their wedding dates, and some couples just want something a little less traditional! Whatever the reason, a micro wedding or elopement may be perfect for you.

However, they are lesser known types of weddings so I wanted to break them down for you. Keep in mind that with both of these options and traditional weddings, you truly can do whatever feels right to you and your wedding day. Every single wedding is unique; as it should be! bride-in-white-dress-groom-blue-suit-elopement

First let’s dive into micro weddings.

Micro weddings are going to be a great compromise if you are a bride or groom who still wants to have a semi traditional wedding. My definition of a micro wedding is a wedding with less than 30 guests. Pretty simple! Micro weddings are going to be a bit more intimate than a traditional wedding with 150+ people and guests are typically going to be your closest family and friends. Think of a traditional wedding but on a smaller scale. Micro weddings often have a lot of the same elements as a traditional wedding such as a first look or walk down the aisle, reception, and bridal parties. If these traditions are important to you, you don’t have to sacrifice them for a smaller wedding!

The nice thing about a micro wedding vs a traditional wedding is that it is scaled down, so for some couples that means you can have the parts of a wedding you’ve always dreamed of but on a more affordable scale. For example, you can still have your bridesmaids and groomsmen and throw a reception, but since it’s on a smaller scale you may be able to have a higher end meal choice that you prefer or larger centerpieces because you have less guests to feed and seat. You don’t have to lose any of the fun stuff like tossing your bouquet and singing along to “Sweet Caroline” during the reception!

Next up, let’s break down what an elopement is.

You may be a bit more familiar with elopements but eloping looks a lot different than it may have in the past! It doesn’t have to mean running off to a secret wedding, although it can. Eloping just means that you are deciding to get married without a large wedding or reception. Typically elopements are just the two of you, an officiant, photographer, and less than 10 people as witnesses.

The difference between secret elopements of the past and elopements today, is that you can still have a grand day all about you two! Eloping doesn’t have to mean a quick exchange of vows with nothing following it. You can book tickets to your dream honeymoon spot and get married there with epic bridal portraits. You can plan an entire day full of your favorite activities and do them all after you say “I Do”. The options are endless! You can also still add in some traditional wedding touches to an elopement, such as a first dance playing on a speaker, toasting with champagne, or splitting a cupcake together. I think an elopement is a great option for a couple who doesn’t want to plan a large or even small wedding and wants an intimate day truly focused on just the two of you.

Let’s talk packages.

Finally, I wanted to let you know about my packages when it comes to micro weddings and elopements. With micro weddings they are typically 4 hour packages and elopements are 2. Since both of these types of weddings are smaller than a traditional wedding, I have created packages that cater to each of these unique options. You’ll still get gorgeous bridal portraits and photos that capture your day with both of my packages. Visit my micro weddings and elopements page to view galleries and check out pricing. Contact me today to discuss which one is right for you!
