Lee Wedding-Two Year Anniversary

I’m blown away at how fast this year has gone. I can’t believe Rebecca and Jonny are already celebrating their second anniversary.  When I think back to this beautiful day in May last year, I can’t help but think about all the love I experienced. I have known Rebecca for a while and getting to spend her wedding day with her was such an incredible honor.

Now I know it’s a little confusing. You’re like, Liz, they just got married last year so why does the title say two year anniversary? Don’t worry, I’m not going crazy or typing weird things. Rebecca and Jonny actually officially tied the knot in a close family ceremony in 2017. Jonny is in the military and already knew he was getting stationed away from Rebecca. They wanted to move together and begin their life as a married couple so they chose to get married on this day in 2017 and then celebrate with friends and family in 2018 like they originally planned.

Funny story

We actually did Rebecca and Jonny’s engagement the day after they officially got married. We shot their entire session at Rock Island and had so much fun! As we were walking back to the car, Rebecca sheepishly said to me, “I’m not sure how to tell you this but we got married yesterday.” She paused before saying they got married and a part of me was scared that they’d decided to just elope and no longer needed a wedding photographer. Once she finished the sentence, I was so excited for them! She said they hadn’t told many people and weren’t sure how people would react. How could anyone react in away other than being incredibly happy for them!

While I love wedding days and photographing the joyful moments, my favorite times during the wedding day is being with the couple as they gaze happily into each other’s eyes. Your wedding day, while beautiful, is about your love and committment to one another, the food, flowers, dress, don’t mean anything without your committment.

I couldn’t be happier to wish these two a happy anniversary. I can’t wait to see where the Lord takes you. Want to get a little look into their triumphs, struggles and advice for newlyweds? Keep on reading!

  • What has been the best thing about being married to the love of your life?

    • Getting to wake up everyday to my best friend and building our life together.
  • What has been the biggest struggle during your first year of marriage?

    • Work schedules being hectic and not always getting to spend all the time we want together.

  • What advice would you give to newlyweds?

    • Don’t go to bed mad at each other. Even when you disagree, talk it out and don’t jump to conclusions. Also don’t sweat the small stuff for your wedding. That one day leads to a lifetime of happiness with your spouse.

This is such great advice! Your wedding day is about you, your spouse and your committment to one another. Nothing else matters on that day.

  • What has been the greatest blessing during your first year of marriage?

    • Having my person on my side at all times. Sharing the joys of new jobs and life in a new state that ultimately led to a new puppy who has brought us such joy and happiness.

  • Tell me what you remember most from your wedding day.

    • Seeing each other for the first time during the ceremony in front of all of our friends and family. Even though we did a first look before hand, it did not take away the special feeling in the moment.

This is such a good point. Many people opt out of a first look because they think they won’t be as emotional when they come down the aisle but many couples I talk to say it’s just as emotional. It’s the moment when it all finally becomes real and you get to marry the love of your life.

  • Anything else you’d like me to include in your anniversary blog?

    • Best decision ever! Always say I love you. Don’t take for granted the moments that you have together because you can’t get that time back. Be there for each other no matter what, even when times are hard.

Happy 2 year anniversary Rebecca and Jonny. Hope you spent some time together and I can’t wait to see more photos of your pup Mocha on social media!
