Ahh! I am so excited to finally be writing a blog about these photos! Over the summer I planned, styled and photographed a styled wedding and it was so much fun! A little stressful #weddingplanning but super fun to get to choose how my vision would be realized in these photos and I am IN LOVE! If you haven’t read the blog about the planning and idea behind this styled wedding then you should check it out here.

When I first talked to Amber and saw a photo of her and Lucas, I knew they would be perfect for this session! At the time of the session they had just celebrated their first year of marriage and the love that they have for one another is so visual I knew that they would be the only couple that could make this vision come alive. Amber strong features and Lucas’s calm demeanor made my job easy. We started off with a first look and let me tell you it was difficult making sure he didn’t turn around too soon. I wanted the genuine smiles and laughter that would only come from him seeing his bride all dressed up just like the day of their wedding. The rest was a breeze aside from the muddy grass. The day before it had been pouring rain but I knew I only had one chance left to get the gorgeous summer light that I wanted before it turned into fall. For the Butterfly Garden idea I wanted everything to be lush and green and with August quickly approaching I knew I would have many more weekends in which I could get the couple, the makeup artist and the videographer all together before things started turning the golden colors of fall. The day of was filled with last minute changes as I quickly decided to remove the veil in the middle of the session and go for a more fun and fairy like look to the bride and with a new bouquet of crepe myrtle the idea came to life.

I loved the quiet calm demeanor that Lucas had throughout the whole session. It was really hard to get him to laugh but I accepted the challenge and love how it all came together. He totally rocked these individual groom portraits and even had fun holding the bride’s bouquet! 🙂

I just can’t get over how great these came out! I photographed part of this session with my medium format film camera and was curious how they would come out. I haven’t used film in many years but some of them came out really beautifully. I’ll add that not all of them did however. I definitely need some practice lol. I love the colors that I got with the Kodak film however.

Amber’s bridal portraits were so fun! She is absolutely stunning and didn’t require much direction. For this session I wanted a lot of confidence and a light airy feel that would convey the whimsical butterfly garden theme and Amber was stunning in her portrayal of the theme.

The below photo is my absolute favorite from the day! Her features and the close embrace are so striking! Words really can’t describe how happy I am with how this vision came together so I am going to let the rest of the photos do the talking. Don’t forget to check at the very end for all the collaborators. Thank you so much to everyone who participated and to Amber and Lucas for so seamlessly bringing my vision to life.
