So if anyone follows me on instagram then you saw all of my Christmas in Texas posts but I have a few more photos that I didn’t put on instagram that I’m posting now. I had such a great time in Austin, TX with J.B. It was great to get away from work and Nashville and life in general. I relaxed and hung out at bars while J.B. played. Gosh the relaxing and the sights! Austin is definitely a better Nashville. It’s so alive with so much to do…not so much in the winter but apparently during the summer and fall there is a ton to do. I can’t even describe how amazing it was to just not think or work and just enjoy myself. I would definitely say that I am a bit of a workaholic and it was a welcome relief to not work. Below are a few photos of J.B. playing at The Dizzy Rooster. Keep reading below for more about my trip.
One of the days that I was there I got to drive around by myself and explore! I went downtown and walked around 6th street. I spent a lot of time on 6th at night but never really saw it during the day so it was interesting to see how much slower it was during the day since it’s basically Nashville’s Broadway but way more bars. I also went into the Driskill Hotel and OH MY GOODNESS it is GORGEOUS!! It was a photographer’s dream. Beautiful lighting and ceilings. The whole place was just perfect. I walked around and took a bunch of photos since it was decorated for Christmas and just loved it!! They also have a small bar and cafe there that I didn’t go to but it looked like they had a great menu. The place has so much history. I could have literally spent hours there just sitting and taking it all in.
I also went hiking while I was there! I asked my waiter at a restaurant I visited where I should check out and he told me about Mount Bonnell. It was a gorgeous day with perfect weather so I drove out there and took a hike. The place is gorgeous. The hike isn’t very long but I ended up spending most of the day there just sitting and looking out over the river. You can see so far from up there and even see the city of Austin. It was so nice to just be in nature and relax plus the weather was so nice I just couldn’t stand to be inside that day. I love that it was in the 70s and 80s while I was there. It totally did not feel like Christmas at all. Although I loved Austin and am so glad I was there for 8 days hanging out with J.B. I definitely got exhausted. It is a very fast paced town and in the winter when you’re in the music industry you are usually playing in bars and staying up late so I was up until 3 or 4am every night which can definitely be taxing on the body. I loved my time there but think next time I will maybe only go for a weekend. I think Austin would be a great weekend getaway to see J.B. and relax a little while exploring the town and seeing him play before flying back and going to work the next week.
I hope you enjoyed seeing a little peak into my time in Austin. I loved seeing the city and hanging out. Please leave a comment below on your favorite place to visit. I’d love to add some great places to my travel plans!
