My Summer Internship with Matt Andrews Photography!!

Since it is almost the summer I thought I would officially tell all my readers about my incredible summer internship!! At the beginning of this year I emailed Matt Andrews and asked if he would consider taking me on as an intern for the summer. I ran across his work on Facebook about a year and a half ago and fell in love. His technique and style are incredible and his use of artificial and natural light are just the things that I wanted to learn to elevate my own wedding photography. He quickly emailed me back and said he was glad I liked his work and would be happy to take me on as an intern even though he had never had one before. Needless to say I was ecstatic! In just one short year I would get to work with and learn from a photographer who greatly inspired me. What an opportunity!!

Well it has now come to the end of the year and I am about to embark on the greatest learning opportunity I have had to date. I have to admit I’m a little nervous. I will be shooting with the 5D Mark II which I have never used before but have been working on learning just for this internship and I will be working with someone who has photographed more weddings than I could ever think about photographing right now. Despite the almost crippling nervousness I am very excited!! When I first decided to do this internship it was going to be for college credit. Now towards the end of the year, the death of my old car, the birth of new debt as I finance another one, and renting lenses to photograph weddings I have decided that financially I cannot afford to pay the school the $2000 it would cost me to take this course as a class. While it does suck that I won’t get credit for my internship I am still very excited to get the vast knowledge that I will learn from working with him.

Now to the best part of all; or really the culmination of this post. My first wedding with Matt is tomorrow!! I can’t believe it! The nerves are definitely setting in but I can’t wait to be his second shooter, learn some amazing things from him, and get some great photos for my portfolio!! This wedding will be in Columbia which is about an hour from Nashville so I’ll be driving down early and taking for the entirety of the wedding which ends at midnight. I cannot express how excited I am for this internship. For now I will not be able to post any photos from the weddings that I do for him. I have to work out the details on how the images will work and how I will be able to use them in my portfolio. Until then I won’t be posting any images especially because he is the main shooter and I don’t want anyone thinking that I was the main shooter for his weddings. I probably will not post any images until the end of the summer and I’ll do a review of my summer internship blog post.
