If you are either considering booking or have booked a future session with Liz Courtney Photography you may be wondering what will come next and what a typical session might look like. I thought I would go over how my sessions usually flow so that you would know what to expect and how to plan for your photo shoot.
We’ll first start with a planning session. This is where we will discuss what you’d like to do with your photos after your session. Are you interested in an album, canvases, or prints. I specialize in legacy products that will be displayed in your home, so it is important for me to get an idea of how you’d like to use your photos before your session. If I am aware of what you’d like to purchase, then I can make suggestions on sizes and wall gallery combinations, or I can design a gorgeous album for you. We’ll also discuss where you’d like your photos taken. I typically photograph in parks because they allow for your children to run around and plan. They also provide a variety of backgrounds for your photos. I do have more urban locations if that is something your interested in. I do offer lifestyle sessions as well if you’d like your session to take place in your home.
Full sessions are 1 hour long. This provides time for your children to relax and play, I will take a variety of photos. I specialize in unposed photography. I love when my clients look natural and interact naturally in their photos. I will also pose you for a few traditional photos but will stick to a lot of laughing and snuggling for your session. Most sessions also typically take place about 1 hour before sunset. We can always schedule this around your child’s nap time if needed as well. I love the golden light that is provided by the sun at this time but work well with all types of light to capture your unique family,
We’ll also personalize your session so be sure to bring anything that is sentimental. For children, this might be a stuffed animal or their favorite toy. Letting them bring something to play with will allow them to relax in front of the camera.
In terms of wardrobe, you should be coordinating but not matching. Also, dress nice but also comfy. You’ll be running after your kids, snuggling and tickling them. Unless you decide you want a more formal session, I always recommend dressing nice for your family photos but not being too formal. We’ll discuss your style during the planning session as well to determine if you’d like a more formal or laid back session.
Get ready to laugh, snuggle and have fun. I know it can be stressful being in front of the camera, but i aim to make every session fun. I want you to enjoy the experience because when you enjoy yourself, you’ll love the photos even more than you already will. I strive to capture your family’s essence and joy so be prepared to let your wild side out.
Now you may be wondering what happens after your session. Well, that’s my favorite part. I’ll go home, look through all of the amazing images we took and select between 20-35 photos. I will carefully edit them to make sure each one is perfect and about 3 weeks after your session, we’ll have your legacy viewing session. I arrive at your home with my laptop, samples and we view your beautiful memories. We’ll think back to your planning session and what you’d like to do with your images and I will have ideas for which photos would look best as which legacy product. I will have designed your album and wall galleries. We’ll have fun, select photos, select products and your order will be placed. I’ll say congratulations and off I go to order your stunning products. 4 weeks later they will arrive at my office for a quality check before they are packaged up with love and mailed off to you,
Our time together doesn’t end there, We’ll celebrate birthdays and anniversaries together as well as life events. Many of my legacies come back to me for future photo sessions which I love. I have brides come to me when they begin their family and families who come back for additional photo sessions. You become like family. You become a Liz Courtney Legacy!
