Sunday, October 30, 2016. What an amazing day! Chad and I had been dating almost a year and I felt like he was going to propose in the next few months, but I had no idea it would be that day! Chad wanted the proposal to be a surprise, and he definitely succeeded.
We attended church that morning (the place where we met and where we will get married) then changed into hiking clothes and drove to Fall Creek Falls. I had never been there before and I didn’t think Chad had either, but I later found out that he was there two weeks beforehand scouting out the perfect location to pop the question. We hiked down to the waterfall and spent some time there, then started hiking back up to the car.
We stopped at an overlook to admire the view down to the waterfall. Turns out, that overlook was where Chad planned to propose, but it was pretty crowded so he had to improvise. There was another overlook not too far away, so we stopped there and sat down on a boulder. We talked for a little bit, then Chad pulled a Hallmark card out of his backpack and handed it to me. It talked about finding “the one” and as I read it, I realized what was about to happen! Chad got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I said YES and then started laughing; I was overjoyed with the thought of spending the rest of my life with him!
I never in a million years would have pictured getting engaged while wearing hiking boots, a t-shirt, and my hair in a ponytail, but it was so much better than I could have ever imagined!
My ring is absolutely gorgeous! Chad picked it out on his own and he couldn’t have done a better job! I stare at it sometimes and think to myself how blessed I am to be marrying such an incredible man! Being engaged has added a deeper level to our relationship and while I am enjoying all the little things that come along with planning a wedding, I’m really looking forward to life slowing down a bit after we get married and are officially Mr. and Mrs.!
