A Shelby Bottoms Engagement Session – Steven and Taylor

After only four months of dating, Steven and I were already discussing marriage and how soon was too soon for him to pop the question.  After many questions of, “Are you sure it’s not too soon?” and, “Are we going to look crazy?” we decided that for us, the earlier the better! We knew we were meant to be together and that forever had already begun.

Knowing that we were both ready, we had decided that we would wait until Christmas so that we would be home with my family for the big event!  However, little did I know that he and my best friend, who is now my MOH, decided they were sick of me begging and it would be best to move the proposal up to Fall Break in October!  This was all decided within a week of Fall Break, which required a ton of planning on their parts.

On the way home for break, Steven informed me that he would be having lunch with my Meme so that he could tell her that he wanted to marry me.  To me, this sounded perfectly normal!  Little did I know, that day was the day I was going to get A RING! The day of the “breakfast with Meme”, Steven went to pick up Karlee, my best friend, and they found the perfect place for him to pop the question.  They went and found the decorations, planned where I would walk up, and even where she would hide to take pictures of the whole thing!

After he returned from “breakfast with Meme” he told me he wanted to take me to my favorite restaurant for date night. As I pulled myself up from my comfy bed and began getting ready, I realized I forgot to bring my makeup home from school! A little bit later I also realized I forgot my curling iron.  I cried to Steven about how I’d much rather stay at home in my comfy clothes watching a movie and eating junk food, but he insisted we go because “I needed it”.

Dinner at Red Rock Canyon was delicious (as always) despite the fact Steven would not stop checking his phone and going to the restroom. He told me he wanted to walk around a park because he wasn’t done enjoying time with me, so we went to Woodward, a botanical park just like our first date!

As I got out of the car and started walking, I noticed some candles down the sidewalk a bit.  I also noticed we were walking towards them!! As we got closer, I saw two coffee cups (anyone who knows me knows how much I love coffee) and candles leading up to them.  I looked at him nervously and said, “No way”.  Classy, right?  We got up to the coffee cups and he told me to turn them around. As I turned the first one around I read “Lets have coffee together..” and on the other “for the rest of our lives”.  After the tears started flowing, I turned around to see Steven on his knee holding up the most perfect ring I’ve ever seen!

The ring he had was the one I’d been talking about daily for months.  Because I like to pretend I’m a princess, it’s only fitting that it is Disney and is made to replicate Cinderella’s carriage.  I stare at it basically 24/7!

Getting engaged has been the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me!  I constantly have to remind myself that I, TAYLOR SELKY, get to marry the STEVEN MARSH! How awesome is that?!  Friends and family have poured excitement and love out to us unconditionally and we have built the most amazing team of people to help us plan and celebrate our future marriage together.  Through our engagement, I have learned that while people may think you are crazy for getting engaged so soon, when you know, YOU KNOW!

Your future family heirlooms await.
